Tvcc Plans $1M Renovation for Fine Arts Building

A Texas community college is spending more than $1 million to update a 70-year-old building that hasn't changed much since the 1970s.

Trinity Valley Community College President Jason Morrison tells the Killeen Daily Herald that the Fine Arts Building at the college's campus in Stephenville is "dated and its '70s architecture needs an upgrade."

The college's Fine Arts Department has had its own building for several years, Kristin Huggins, the department's chair of voice and choir, tells the Killeen Daily Herald.

"I've been in this community for several years now, and it has been unchanging and unyielding," she says.

"What better way to rebuild than by inspiring our staff, faculty, and students with this beautiful new building?" The college is spending $875,000 to $925,000 on the renovation, which will include a floor replacement, new walls, paint, and ceilings, as well as a new metal exterior that will make the building watertight.

Huggins says the project will allow the Fine Arts Department to collaborate with other departments, including the college's new musical theater program, which will start in 2025.
