Ghana Impact Summit Secures Commitments for Sustainable Growth from Local Financing Ecosystem

The government of Ghana has taken a big step toward solving one of the world's most persistent problems: poverty.

The West African country has set a goal of eradicating extreme poverty by the year 2024, and the New York Times reports that the government has taken a big step toward that end with the launch of the Ghana Impact Summit.

The two-day event, which began Tuesday and runs through Friday, is meant to bring together government officials, entrepreneurs, venture capital firms, and other interested parties to chart a course for the country's economic future.

One of the main goals of the summit is to create an ecosystem that brings together potential investors, entrepreneurs, and government officials to create jobs and boost the country's economy, the Times reports.

According to the CEO of Impact Investing Ghana, "We have businesses in deal rooms securing investments."

One of the projects being discussed at the summit is the construction of a 700,000-square-foot technology park in the northern part of the country to be used for research and development, training, and commercialization of small and medium-sized businesses, the Times reports.
